Hyundai reinstated its commitment of Make-in-India with the fastest roll out of 10 million cars from its state-of-art manufacturing facility in India near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The unparalleled milestone of achieving production of 10 million cars is a result of smart manufacturing and re-affirms Hyundai’s commitment towards making India Self Reliant. The achievement reiterates HMIL’s support towards State and Central Governments to accentuate economic recovery by overcoming the challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic. Hyundai ALCAZAR became the 10 millionth car to roll out of the production line at HMIL’s plant in Sriperumbudur. Thiru. M.K.Stalin, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu signed on the car bonnet to mark the momentous occasion.

25 Years of Manufacturing Excellence
Over the last 25 years, the Hyundai plant is a glaring example of manufacturing excellence, signifying Hyundai’s technological brilliance. Hyundai began operations of its manufacturing facility in September 1998 with the commissioning of Hyundai’s first integrated car manufacturing plant outside Korea.
Hyundai has been driving manufacturing excellence at its plant with an installed capacity of producing 7.5 Lakh units annually. Supporting the government’s Make in India initiative Hyundai has manufactured over 9 million cars at this facility. Hyundai manufacturing facility is a living example of smart manufacturing with Zero wastage 100 % water recirculation facility using recirculated water and rainwater harvesting systems, deployment of Industry 4.0 with over 650 4th Generation robots and utilization of AI in robotics automation for car manufacturing.
Over the last 25 years, Hyundai has been instrumental in shaping itself as India’s first smart mobility solutions provider. Hyundai became a household name in India by defining mobility excellence across segments, with introduction of iconic brands and achieved highest ever market share of 24 % in May 2021.
In pursuit towards realizing the dream of ‘Make in India’, Hyundai contributes to India’s GDP by sustaining its position as India’s leading exporter of cars and exported 1,04,342 units of passenger vehicles from India between April 2020 and March 2021, continuing its journey as the leading automobile brand to export from the country.
Hyundai became the leading exporter of SUVs, with over 2 lakh units of CRETA and VENUE having shipped to overseas markets, including Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nepal and Chile. The new i20 that has been well accepted in India and around the global, is being exported to all key markets across Africa and Latin America region. To further give thrust on exports, HMI commenced exports to Nepal through railways from Walajabad Railway Hub near Irungattukottai near Chennai.
As the country’s largest exporter of automobiles, Hyundai surpassed the 3 million vehicle export milestone in early 2020, exporting to 88 countries and recorded multiple export milestones over the years – 5 lakh exports in March 2008, 10 lakh exports in February 2010, 20 lakh exports in March 2014.
In 2020, HMIL announced ‘Click to Buy’ – India’s first automobile end to end online platform for car purchase. Click to Buy offers a seamless, convenient and safe retail experience for customers interested in purchasing Hyundai cars. To support its growth and expansion plans in India, Hyundai currently has 1154 sales outlets, 1295 service outlets covering 862 cities.
