2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class India Model Updated With 2.0-Litre Turbocharged Petrol Engine doesn’t make much power over the previous version. 250 BHP tune would have been ideal
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is one of the finest entry-level luxury saloons you can get your hands on and the model has been updated with a more powerful petrol engine for the 2020 model year. The C-Class petrol was powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system that was introduced in 2017. However, the said engine has been given the boot in India and replaced with the new 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor on the C200. The new Mercedes-Benz C200 is priced from Rs. 40.90 lakh, going up to Rs. 46.54 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom India).
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class makes 204PS and is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the 1.5-litre motor with the mild-hybrid system made 184PS, while the electric propulsion system offered an additional 14PS of power and 160Nm of peak torque. With the new engine, the C-Class can now sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 7.7 seconds.
Apart from the new BS6 compliant engine, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class does not get any major changes. The sedan comes with the COMAND infotainment system via a 10.25-inch display, navigation, powered sunblind and electrically operable front seats with memory function. The car also gets LED headlamps, ambient lighting, wireless charging for smartphones, digital instrument console and active park assit. The C-Class also gets Mercedes Me that works with the help of an embedded SIM card and brings connected tech with features like remote monitoring and location tracking.
The Mercedes-Benz C200 petrol is sold in two variants – Prime and Progressive. The model competes against the likes of the BMW 3 Series and the Jaguar XE. The Audi A4 and the Volvo S60 are also rivals and the updated versions will arrive in India later this year.
