The 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird BS6 is set to come in the Indian market very soon. The bike had been spied testing a couple of times before but of late, the spied images are good enough to provide us clear details of what to expect from the upcoming launch.
In terms of design and styling, RE hasn’t tinkered much with the silhouette and carried it forward to the new model. However, there are enough important differentiators to infuse novelty factor in the upcoming version. Take, for instance, the round headlamp upfront which now comes equipped with a circular LED DRL and the whole setup is flanked by conventionally-styled turn indicators. At the rear, again a circular tail lamp has been used accompanied by a set of turn indicators that are positioned quite lower down the panel.
In order to enhance seating comfort, the new 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird BS6 will feature well-cushioned seats for both rider and pillion. This is sure to find favor with prospective buyers who are habitual of riding long distances without breaks. The company has incorporated a new instrument cluster that boasts an analog speedometer and an LCD screen. Hand grips have also been changed and the use of toggle switches is sure to evoke retro feel among the riders.
2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird BS6 will use either a 346cc BS6 compliant engine or it can go for the higher capacity motor form the Himalayan to power the Thunderbird X. One thing, however, is sure that the 499cc engine will be discontinued as it hasn’t been able to sell in desired numbers. The suspension hardware and braking architecture have been carried over although the spoke wheels have now been replaced by alloys. Also, the disc brake has been shifted to the right-hand side as it aids riding dynamics. The launch of new Thunderbird X is expected to happen in early 2020 and RE will ask for a premium of around Rs 15k-20k for the new bike over its outgoing model.
