Tata Motors has recently updated its Nexon compact SUV in order to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. While doing so the indigenous automaker has also added more heft to the performance of Nexon’s petrol variant. The 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine in Nexon now puts out a healthy 120hp and 170 Nm of max power and max torque respectively. Just so you know the BS4 Nexon petrol had an output of 110bhp which means the new version produces 10 hp more than before.
The amount of torque, however, remains the same at 170Nm. With the increased power output, the new Nexon is now shoulder to shoulder with Hyundai’s Venue 1.0 which produces 120hp and 172Nm of rotational force. However, Ford EcoSport continues to lead the pack with the highest output of 123hp. That said, Ford lags behind the Hyundai and Tata on torque by a margin of 22Nm and 20Nm respectively as it produces only 150Nm of max torque.
Except for increased power, the BS6 Tata Nexon continues to feature the same structural underpinnings and mechanical hardware. Its 1.2-liter Revotron petrol motor comes mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic manual transmission (AMT) as before. However, it’s worth noting that upgradation to the BS6 resulted in an increase in the rated fuel-efficiency of the Nexon. While the Nexon petrol-manual now returns 17.4kmpl (up by 0.4kmpl), the diesel manual variant has become more frugal with a certified mileage of 22.4 kmpl (up by 0.9kmpl).
There hasn’t been any substantial change in the price as Tata Nexon continues to come across as a value for money offering. The petro range has been priced between Rs 6.95 and Rs 11.20 lakh while diesel range starts at Rs 8.45 lakh and peaks at Rs 12.70 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, India). Tata Nexon continues to take on the likes of Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, and Hyundai Venue among others.
