Wagon R has the distinction of becoming the best-selling car from the stable of Maruti Suzuki India Limited in the year 2021. Now according to the latest news, this tallboy design is going to get a mild facelift very soon and although there are no specific details about the update yet, our sources have informed us that these will be mild and limited in number.
The current generation of Maruti Wagon R made its debut in the year 2019 and since then, it hasn’t got any noteworthy changes. 2022 Maruti Wagon R might come with mild cosmetic changes on the outside that will manifest in the form of redesigned bumpers and larger 15-inch alloy wheels. The new model will also come with new shade to entice more buyers.
Inside the cabin, there will be new upholstery but Maruti is unlikely to make any changes to the design of the dashboard.
The AMT variant of the car is likely to come with the option of hill-hold assist and an engine idle start-stop system will also become part of the added equipment. Some of the other features available on the current generation model such as a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and electrically foldable rear outside rearview mirrors will be carried over to the new model as well.
There won’t be any change in the engine and transmission department which means 2022 Wagon R will continue to come with a 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engine. Transmission options will include both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. The new model will not ask for a comprehensive premium over the current price range of the Wagon R which stretches between 5.18 lakh to Rs 6.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). On its arrival, the 2022 Wagon R will continue to take on the likes of Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and its sibling Celerio among others.
