Japanese carmaker Toyota is planning to launch three new models in the Indian market this year. The company has already introduced a new version of the Glanza premium hatchback which is receiving a positive response from Indian buyers. And now to build on the momentum, Toyota will come up with refreshed Urban Cruiser SUV (expected to launch in November 2022), a new Land Cruiser LC300, and a new mid-size SUV that is yet to be named by the company.
In terms of changes, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will come with a comprehensive makeover – both on the outside and inside. The company will also offer a new combination of engine and gearbox to prospective buyers. The changes on the Urban Cruiser will be along the lines of alterations we have witnessed in the new Maruti Vitara Brezza. However, to differentiate these two offerings, Toyota will introduce some of the specific design elements on Urban Cruiser that belong specifically to its own design lineage. In terms of the Global NCAP safety rating, the new model is expected to receive five-star as compared to the four-star rating that has been achieved by the outgoing model
In terms of the design changes, 2022 urban Cruiser will have a new signature grille, revised bumpers, and reimagined headlamp and tail light assemblies. Inside the cabin, design changes will be more comprehensive with the Toyota offering an all-new dashboard and a free-standing touch screen infotainment system on the new model. The touch screen system will feature advanced capabilities and will be compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto besides featuring a voice recognition and navigation system. The new Urban Cruiser will also get a wireless charging system and connected car technology based on SIM connectivity.
Some of the significant features that will make their way on the 2022 Urban Cruiser include automatic climate control, electric sunroof, paddle shifters, and a part-digital instrument cluster. The top-of-the-line model will also feature 360 degrees camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and rear parking sensors among others.
In terms of engine and transmission, the new Urban Cruiser will feature a 1.5-liter Dualjet petrol engine which is capable of putting out 103 bhp along with 136.8 Nm of max torque. Transmission choices will be in the form of a 5-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed torque converter that will come with the added convenience of paddle shifters.
