Tata Motors has updated its entire lineup of models to meet phase 2 of BS6 emission norms, termed real driving emissions (RDE) standards. The upgradation process has resulted in enhanced fuel efficiency of cars and has also considerably improved the low-end drivability of the cars. Among the models, Punch micro-SUV has come up with the most improvements in fuel efficiency and now delivers 20.10 kmpl, the highest in the entire portfolio of Tata cars. Tiago hatchback has improved its fuel efficiency by 1 kmpl to 20.01 kmpl while the Tigor sedan has an incremental improvement of 0.6 kmpl to 19.60 kmpl as a result of this upgradation exercise.
Just so you know, Tiago, Punch, Tigor, and Altroz use the 1.2-litre petrol engine capable of delivering 86 PS of max power. The 5-speed AMT option is available on all these offerings except for the Altroz which gets the premium 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for a more premium and smooth shift experience. Altroz also gets the turbo variant of the 1.2-litre petrol engine which delivers 110PS of max power. The same turbo variant of a 1.2-litre petrol engine is also used in Nexon which, after this upgrade, returns a full efficiency of 17 kmpl.
On the diesel front, the 1.5-litre Revotorq motor that is offered on Altroz (90PS) and Nexon (110PS) has also gone under the upgradation exercise. As a result, Nexon has now become more fuel efficient by up to 2.40 kmpl while the margin of improvement in the case of Altroz is just 0.60 kmpl. The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is doing the duty under the hood of Harrier and Safari has also been tuned for returning better fuel efficiency.
The 2023 update has also gone beyond making these engines compliant with the RDE norms. Tata has also increased the standard warranty from the previous level of 2-year/75,000 km to 3-year/1,00,000 km now.
