Jeep has started testing the latest version of its fifth-generation Grand Cherokee SUV internationally. The model will be launched in India in 2022 and will be assembled locally to keep costs down. A facelifted version of the SUV was recently spotted wearing camouflage that hides the front profile, and significant changes are expected.
As seen in the spy photos, the 2025 Grand Cherokee will have a significantly redesigned front end. It will feature improved headlights, a wider seven-slat grille, and an optimized front bumper with ADAS and parking sensors positioned higher than before. The alloys also get a new treatment in terms of design.
The side and rear profile are almost identical to the current Grand Cherokee. However, these are some of the early spy images of the SUV, so the brand may change the rear profile as well as the testing phase progresses.
Mechanically, at least in India, Jeep is unlikely to make any changes to the Grand Cherokee’s powertrain. The SUV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and Quadra-Trac 4×4 system. In this condition, the engine produces 268 horsepower and 400 Nm of maximum torque.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has not been particularly successful in sales in India. It will be interesting to see if the brand updates the Cherokee with a facelift in the coming years.
In particular, the carmaker has been offering discounts of up to Rs. 12 lakh on the Grand Cherokee in order to clear stocks for incoming new car? Time will tell.
