Lexus has added a third powertrain option to its flagship LX SUV. This new version of the large Lexus LX, called the LX 700h, will feature a global range of gasoline hybrid powertrains in addition to the standard gasoline and diesel engines. Additionally, the entire Lexus LX lineup has undergone chassis optimizations and other changes depending on the market.
Prior to the introduction of the LX 700h, the LX SUV was the only Lexus model without an electric version. The LX 700h features new parallel hybrid technology that pairs an electric motor with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter gasoline V6 engine, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The same V6 petrol hybrid engine is also found in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, which will soon be updated.
Like the other LX SUVs, the 700h is also all-wheel drive. Preliminary figures from Lexus’ pre-production car put the combined power output at 463 hp and 790 Nm.
As for the LX series updates, the SUV has an improved 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a faster wireless charging pad. The VIP and Executive versions also have a massage program that includes full-body and targeted options with different intensity levels.
Lexus has also introduced an off-road “Overtrail” edition to the LX. This edition is also available on several other Lexus models, such as the new Land Cruiser Prado-based Lexus GX. The LX Overtrail features unique alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, Moon Desert-exclusive paint, a black grille and other accents that give it a rugged look. Its cabin features one-piece low-saturation upholstery with black ash wood accents.
The Overtrail package includes front and rear differential locks, plus a center differential lock that is standard on all LX trims.
The updated LX series will launch alongside the LX700h first in North America and then in other markets.
