The Tata Altroz facelift has been spotted undergoing tests recently, revealing some intriguing design elements. This mid-cycle refresh will likely see only modest updates, both exterior and interior.

The test mule is heavily camouflaged, concealing much of its design. However, a few details can be picked out, such as a revamped front bumper with a vertical crease situated beneath the fog light units. There’s also a hint of new LED components in the tail-lights and indicators.

Recent spy shots also highlight a sizable infotainment screen, probably the 10.25-inch unit from the top-spec model and the sporty Altroz Racer. Unfortunately, no other interior details are visible in these latest images. It’s expected that Tata will introduce new upholstery and door trims along with the refreshed Altroz, potentially bringing certain premium features to a wider audience.

This larger infotainment screen could make its way into lower variants, and the segment-first ventilated front seats—currently exclusive to the Racer—might become available in the standard top-spec model. However, it appears that a sunroof will not be included in this facelift.

Currently, the Altroz offers an 88hp, 1.2-liter petrol engine with options for both a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There’s also a 73.5hp factory-fitted CNG variant and a 90hp, 1.5-liter diesel engine. Note that the CNG and diesel models are only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Altroz Racer stands out with its 120hp, 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual, a setup also found in the Tata Nexon. All five powertrains are expected to remain available in the facelifted Altroz.

Since the launch of the sporty Altroz Racer and whispers of an automatic variant, the Altroz—positioned against competitors like the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno—hasn’t garnered much attention aside from appearing on Tata’s discount list. With new spy images surfacing, it appears Tata Motors is forging ahead with this mid-cycle update for the hatchback that debuted in January 2020. While it has seen updates in variants and features, including the addition of a more powerful turbo-petrol engine, design changes have been minimal.

In terms of sales, Tata’s premium hatchback hasn’t taken off as expected, with competitors such as the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Toyota Glanza outselling it, despite the fact that the Altroz is the only model in its class to offer a diesel option. Presently, the Altroz is priced between Rs 6.65 lakh and Rs 11.30 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
