VW is working on its all-new 3-row SUV that will go on sale globally including in India in the period of next year or so. The new model might be named Tayron and share the MQB-A2 platform with the next generation of Skoda Kodiaq. Tayron will replace the existing Tiguan AllSpace and in India, it will be assembled from the CKD kits to primarily keeps its price within the desirable limits.
It is important to note that Tiguan AllSpace in India was launched in 2020 and sold through the root of completely built unit (CBU). This resulted in relatively higher price point for the SUV which in part also restricted its appeal only among premium buyers. New Tayron will boast many unique features and to make prospective buyers interested, it’ll feature unique styling that will be significantly different from the Tiguan 5-seater and Tiguan AllSpace.
Skoda is a bit ahead in terms of launching the new Kodiaq as the next-gen SUV will make its debut later in 2023. In comparison, Tayron will roll out the assembly line in Germany in 2024. It will be interesting to witness how prospective buyers will react to the launch of Tayron after the big success of the Skoda Kodiaq. The Skoda is coming to India in late 2024 and this could in late 2025 as well taking over the big 7-seater luxury car market where only Toyota offers its Hycross.
It’s important for VW who is carefully crafting its Indian market strategy and launching products only after comprehensively evaluating parameters that are critically important for the Indian buyers. The company is contemplating launching a slew of its new models in India including an all-electric SUV the ID4 and the fifth-gen Polo GTI although the final decision in this regard is yet to be taken. Right now, the focus seems on facelifts of the popular Taigun and Kushaq for the VW group along with rumored sub four meter and 7 seater SUV’s to be made entirely in India on the same platform.
