Mahindra & Mahindra has rejigged the features list on the Thar and some of the features have been silently deleted from the off-roader. The features that have been excluded include the brushed silver finish on the front bumper, deletion of the second USB port and the switch to CEAT Crossdrive All Terrain (AT) tyres on some variants. The move seems a part of the cost-cutting exercise without changing the prices on the model.
Notably, the CEAT Crossdrive tyres replace the CEAT Czar AT tyres that were previously available on the Mahindra Thar. The SUV was originally offered with MRF Wanderer AT tyres. Inside, the model now loses lumbar support on the front seats, while the dashboard now comes with only one USB port and one 12-volt power socket. Originally, the Mahindra Thar was offered with two Type-A USB ports.
The idle start-stop system is only present on the manual variants of the new 2022 Thar. The new logo has now been added to the Steering wheel, front and rear of the car. The toggle switches have been revised with a new button and logo on them. The function behind the right side of the steering can now be accessed by these new toggle switches. This includes hazard lamps, central locking and hill descent control. Left side switches are also new but they continue to offer passenger seatbelt and passenger airbag (on or off) functions. Mahindra has discontinued two of Thar’s colours from the palette. A Mystic Copper and the Rocky Beige. It now gets Red Rage, Napoli Black, Aqua Marine and Galaxy Grey paint shades.
Other features on the Thar continue to be the same and include a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and cruise control. However, the missing features are nothing more than a cost-cutting exercise. Moreover, supply-chain constraints have made things difficult for automakers, especially with high waiting period models like the Thar.
Nearly two years since its launch, the Mahindra Thar continues to see high demand with waiting periods in excess of one year. The model is offered in 2.0-litre turbo petrol and diesel engine options, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.
