BMW 3-Series G20 is going to be the next best 3-Series from the manufacturer as it continues to best seller already for the company
BMW’s next gen 3-series sedan was captured by the spy photographers in Munich, Germany. Despite the sedan being heavily camouflaged it was obvious that the BMW is going for a new sophisticated look.
Like past generations, the new 3-Series, which is code-named the G20, will likely end up as being the benchmark for the small sedan segment when it comes to important metrics such as driving dynamics and performance. But still, Mercedes-Benz and even Cadillac with their latest small sedan offerings have left BMW hanging.
In the front, the new 3 series takes styling clues from the latest BMW 7 series with rounded headlights that flows into the cars oval kidney grilles, whereas at the rear the prototype it still has the protruding round tail lights.
The spy photographers also snagged some interior images also. In that we can see that the cabin appears similar to the current 3 series. The centre console retains the current model’s layout, though the HVAC controls appear to have grown in size and have fewer buttons.It looks like there is a digital instrument cluster. This will likely be teamed with an advanced infotainment system complete with voice activation and gesture control.
The diesel and plug-in hybrid options should be available in most markets. But the latter variant could be possibly utilizing two electric motors (one driving the front axle and the other integrated with the transmission) in a setup which known as Power eDrive. BMW’s current plug-in hybrid 3-Series relies on a single electric motor integrated with the transmission.
The next gen 3 series is expected to have a longer wheel base and little wider than the current model. Despite it being big the lightweight materials such as aluminium, magnesium and, in the case of the 7-Series, carbon fibre-reinforced plastic. The weight savings is brought down of around 40 kg for the 3-Series.
There’s nothing here that you could consider as totally revolutionary or groundbreaking.
The 2019 3 Series looks to epitomize the next steps of the segment, but in some ways, that’s a good thing. Competition here is always high, and that pressure to perform is great for consumers. The larger exterior dimensions for the 2019 3 Series certainly raises an eyebrow. It’s still too early to make any definitive conclusions, but so far, things are looking up.
