Renault Captur Automatic is confirmed by the company. It says no to an AMT but a Dual Clutch gearbox will change the way people look at Captur even more!
Renault India, recently launched its second compact SUV in India the Captur which happens to be a bit more premium than the outgoing Duster compact SUV. The Captur has been priced at Rs.9.99 lakh going all the way up to 13.88 lakh for the top spec trim. As for now, the company has not come up with an automatic variant for the SUV but we’ve been informed that the company is soon planning to introduce the automatic variant. Being it more premium than the Duster. The base variant of the Captur comes with 50 premium options like projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and a built-in audio system among others.
The Captur accompanies Renault’s global design language and is based on the same MO platform as the Duster. The Renault Captur will be available in three trims RXE, RXL and RXT and will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options for buyers to choose from. Renault also brought in the top-spec ‘Platine’ variant which makes its comprehensive debut in India. The Platine variant gets all the lineaments but is only available with a diesel power-train.
The Renault Captur sits longer than the Duster, but ends up being shorter and slender than its relative. The ground clearance stands at a remarkable 210 mm. Other visuals include the full LED headlamps with the dynamic LED turn indicators. You also get massive C-shaped LED DRLs integrated into the bumper. At the rear the LED taillights gets some neat detailing. The SUV gets 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top trims.
Inside the cabin the premium SUV, as they say, gets good materials which feels quite upmarket. The cabin is finished in dual tone black and white shade with the center console fitted with a large touchscreen infotainment system surrounded by gloss black inserts. The twin pod instrument cluster includes a digital display that looks innovative. Powering the Renault Captur is the 1.5-litre K9k diesel engine that produces 108 bhp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The 1,5-litre petrol generates 104 bhp at 5,600 rpm and 142 Nm of torque. The petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the oil burner gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Captur Automatic variant will be quite similar to the one on the Duster petrol which was launched earlier this year or a full blown DCT. As for now Renault has not given any conformation on when the automatic variant will be making its way in India, but we expect it to be launched in the next half of 2018.
