BMW X4 India launch will help it against the Range Rover Evoque and upcoming Audi Q4

BMW is set to launch X4 SUV coupe in India next year sometime around first-quarter of 2019. The car has been spotted testing in Chennai without any camouflage recently, indicating that the company is in the last leg of testing the production model prior to its 2019 launch. Just so you know X4 SUV coupe is a crossover based on X3 model and comes at a premium price especially when compared against the model X3’s price tag. The X4 is a direct competitor to Mercedes-Benz GLC which is only available in Indian market in AMG 43 variant. X4’s positioning also pits it against another formidable competitor, the Range Rover Evoque.

The design of X4 coupe crossover takes the inspiration from X3 and both car models are similar up to the B-pillar. Afterwards, the X4 adopts a different design language in which roof tapers down in a dramatic fashion to culminate into a notchback-like rear design. The Coupe profile of the silhouette remains the main attraction of X4’s design. Inside the cabin too design of X4 is similar to the X3.

In the Global market, BMW offers a wide range of petrol and diesel engines with 4- and 6-cylinder engine configuration. It’s unclear for now which one of these power trains will be offered in the Indian market but we guesstimate that BMW could bring in 6-cylinder petrol and diesel engine which would be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

New X4 will be sold in India as a completely built unit (CBU) which means it will be priced significantly higher than X3. However, it’s not the price which BMW is looking to keep in check with X4. The main aim of the Munich-based manufacturer with X4 is to broaden the choices for its prospective buyers.
