Volkswagen India has finally launched date the Taigun compact SUV. The all-new offering is based on the MQB A0 IN platform specifically designed for India and will get over 93 per cent local content. The Volkswagen Taigun is an extremely important product for the brand and could just be the turnaround product the company is looking for. The automaker also commenced the series production of the new Taigun at its Chakan plant near Pune earlier this month. Taigun has secured 12200 bookings before launch is a huge milestone for the brand!
The Volkswagen Taigun is offered with the 1.0-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine options. The engines are tuned to produce 115PS and 150PS respectively, while torque output stands at 175Nm and 250Nm. Transmission options include the 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter and the 7-speed DSG. The Taigun shares its mechanicals with the Skoda Kushaq and both sister models come out of the same VW Group facility.
On the feature front, the Volkswagen Taigun will get a digital instrument console, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, My Volkswagen Connect app, ambient lighting, auto climate control, USB Type-C ports, wireless charging, electric sunroof, ventilated seats. Adding an element of modernity to the Taigun interiors is the 20.32cm digital cockpit and smart touch Climatronic auto AC with pollen control. The SUV will also come with six airbags, ESC, ABs, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat anchor mounts and more.
A prominent front grille with a generous chrome applique, LED headlights and DRLs that greet the Taigun customer even before the drive starts – they are intelligently controlled and can illuminate the road as brightly as possible without dazzling the other road users. Providing a higher stance and on-road presence, the R17 Manila alloy wheels contribute to the striking appearance of the Taigun. The Taigun has the most distinctive rear within its segment. The width spanning C-shaped Infinity LED tail lamps mark a strong rear-end design.
The Taigun also comes equipped with the locally developed MyVolkswagen Connect App that is a one stop application for customer convenience. The application enables our customers to monitor their usage, asses their driving behavior and live track information related to the car and their safety, all in real-time.
At Volkswagen, safety is a top priority and is synonymous with the brand. The Taigun comes with a full range of 40+ safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), up to 6 airbags, multi-collision brakes, 3 headrests at the rear, reverse camera, 3-point seat belts, ISOFIX and an adjustable headrest for all and tyre pressure deflation warning system. The Taigun will be available in five vibrant body colours such as the Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver and Carbon Steel Grey.
Volkswagen has redefined its variant structure and introduced two parallel lines loaded with features: The Dynamic Line is available on the 1.0L engine and the Performance Line is powered by the 1.5L EVO TSI engine. The introductory prices of the variants are (ex-showroom, India):
Apart from the Kushaq, the Taigun will compete with the petrol variants of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming MG Astor. The Taigun distinguishes itself with more than enough safety kit and superb dynamics and punchy engines on offer making it superior to its rivals. Volkswagen has some hustle left. With a possibility of higher-spec variant and base variant are in the pipeline, Taigun will able to capture all-ends of the market.
