The launch of the Ola S1 and S1 Pro Electric has renewed the competition in the electric scooter category of the Indian market. Ola claims a 181 km range on S1 Pro which is a decent number and can easily meet most of our riding requirements in day-to-day life. Now depending upon the subsidy offered by different states under the FAME-II scheme, the prices of Ola scooters will become even more attractive. But how do these prices compare against the competition?
To find the answer we compare the prices of Ola’s S1 against its established rivals such as Ather 450X, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak and Simple One. For this comparison, post-subsidy ex-showroom prices of all these scooters in Delhi have been considered and accordingly, we found that S1 and S1 Pro variants cost Rs 85k and Rs 1.10 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, India).
Ather 450X
Available in two different variants, 450 Plus and 450X, Ather can be easily considered as the benchmark electric scooter in its segment. The 450 Plus variant uses a 5.4kW motor while 450X comes powered by a bigger 6kW motor. On the crucial aspect of the range, 450 Plus claims 100 km while in the case of 450X, the range is pegged at 116 km – both figures belong to the Indian driving cycle (IDC) range. In terms of pricing, 450 Plus and 450X come at Rs 1.13 lakh and Rs 1.32 lakh respectively which make these versions costlier than the S1 and S1 Pro.
Bajaj Chetak
Bajaj Chetak gets a 3.8 kW motor and develops 5bhp along with 16.2Nm of max torque. The range of the scooter is 90km and it comes with a max speed of 70 kmph. The total time required for a full charge of the battery is between 6 and 8 hours. The scooter is not available for sale in Delhi and hence, we have considered its ex-showroom price in Bengaluru which is Rs 1.43 lakh. In comparison, the prices of Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro are Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh respectively (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
TVS iQube
iQube has been very impressive in terms of its specification and overall utility factor. It is powered by a 4.4 kW motor that puts out 6bhp along with 140Nm of rotational force. The top speed of the scooter is 78kmph and it offers a range of 75 km on a single full charge. It’s priced at Rs 1.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which makes it more affordable than the Ola S1 Pro though it’s still pricier than Ola S1.
Simple One
This latest entrant in the electric scooter segment has got impressive numbers to its kitty. It makes use of a 4.5 kW electric motor to produce 72Nm of max torque. The top speed is rated at 105 mph and Simple One comes with the longest range of 236 km (IDC) in the world that drops to 203 km in the case of Eco mode. The ex-showroom price of the Simple One is Rs 1.10 lakh and depending on the subsidy, the cost can vary from state to state.
