Norton Motorcycles has revealed the new V4SV superbike in a set of images, its all-new and re-engineered offering. The new Norton V4SV is the brand’s flagship superbike and is the first proper product to arrive since India’s TVS Motor Company took ownership of the British brand. The new V4SV replaces the V4SS in the company’s stable and the design remains largely the same as the older model. Power too comes from the same 1200cc 72-degree V4 engine. What’s interesting though is that this motor now develops 187PS as against 202PS earlier, while torque has dropped to 125Nm from the earlier 130Nm. This could be a result of the upgrade to Euro5 compliance norms.
The Norton V4SV uses the same polished twin-spar aluminium frame with an adjustable rake angle, steering offset and swingarm pivot. Other hardware parts remain top drawer including Brembo monobloc calipers with 330mm discs, Ohlins suspension and carbon fibre bodywork. The dry weight has gone up to 193kg on the motorcycle, up from 179kg on the V4SS. The bike also gets a host of features and safety aids including a 6-inch TFT dash with a rear-facing camera, 6-axis IMU, three riding modes, bi-directional quickshifter and all-LED lighting. The bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard but no cornering unit.
The Norton V4SV will be available in two trims, the Manx silver with red and black pinstriping and red aluminium wheels. There’s also the more delectable Carbon trim. The latter gets carbon fibre wheels from BST, while the lower-spec Manx version gets aluminium OZ wheels. The Norton V4SV is anything but cheap and carries a hefty price tag of 44,000 Pounds (approx. Rs. 45 lakh).
Norton Motorcycles is likely to first fulfil orders of those who booked the V4SS earlier before the company went bust, and will now be upgraded to the V4SV. It’s unlikely that the V4SS will make its way to India anytime soon. Despite having an Indian owner, the company is yet to establish a presence in India, ever since its previous distributor, the Kinetic-backed Motoroyale shut shop.
