After 14 years of excellent service, the Bajaj Pulsar 220F has been finally discontinued to the Fastest Indian. Launched in 2007, the Pulsar 220F consistently sold well for Bajaj Auto to this date. However, with the arrival of the new-generation Bajaj Pulsar F250, the company has decided to pull the plug on the 220F. Bajaj would want to redirect its 220F customers to the newer model, more so since the price difference is barely Rs. 6,000 between the 220F and the 250F. While production has ended, dealers will continue to sell the bike till stocks last. So if you were looking to pick one up, now would be a good time.
The Bajaj Pulsar 220F holds an important place in the Indian motorcycling space. It was something of a revolution when it arrives nearly a decade and a half ago, forcing manufacturers to step up their game. Interestingly, even as Bajaj brought NS200 and the RS200 a couple of years later, the 220F’s popularity refused to wean off. And all of this despite the bike maker bringing minimal upgrades to the motorcycle.
The original Bajaj Pulsar 220F arrive as a fuel-injected unit but was soon switched to a carburetted motor for a better ownership experience after the FI units reported problems. This change made all the difference for buyers with the bike excelling in acceleration, handling, and looks. Arguably, it’s still one of the best-looking motorcycles in its class while the no-nonsense technology on it has made it an ever-dependable motorcycle. The bike did go back to fuel injection only 13 years later in 2020 with the transition to BS6 norms. The newer versions also got a revised catalytic converter to meet the emission regulations.
What also made the Pulsar 220F so popular was its commuter-friendly nature. Moreover, it was feature-packed for its time with a 15-litre fuel tank, split seat, projector lens headlamp, LED taillights, and a semi-digital instrument console. Not just India but the Pulsar 220F remained a popular choice in Latin America as well. The Pulsar F250 will now try and fit in those shoes.
A Pulsar like no other, thank you for the rides!
