The major Indian SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra will be launching a more cost-effective version of its highly popular XUV7OO in the Indian market very soon. The new variant will be called AX7 Smart and come without the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technology.

This specific step has been taken by Mahindra in order to reduce the growing pressure of the long waiting time that XUV7OO enjoys among prospective buyers. The short supply of the new SUV is primarily due to the shortage of semiconductor chips that have impacted not only Mahindra but the entire automotive industry around the world.

In terms of the features, the AX7 Smart variant will come equipped with a large 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system, digital instrument console, android auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in Alexa voice assist system, 360-degree camera, and auto booster headlamps among others. Safety features on the new variant will include six safety airbags, cruise control, electrically adjustable outside rearview Mirrors, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, and smart door handles.

However, the smart variant will miss out on some important features such as ADAS, electronic stability program, hill assist and descent control, electric door handles, electronic parking brake, and passive keyless entry. In addition, it will also miss the feature of wireless phone charging and driver detection steering.

XUV7OO comes powered by the choice of two engines – a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel motor. The petrol engine is good for 197bhp and 380Nm while the diesel engine dishes out 182bhp and 450Nm of max torque (420Mn in Manual Transmission Variant). The base MX diesel variant of the SUV has slightly less output with 153bhp and 360Nm on tap. The transmission options include both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed auto gearbox. It’ll be interesting to witness whether the new variant will find the favor with prospective buyers who are compelled to wait for the SUV for up to 8-10 months for some selected variants.
