Mercedes is all set to give its best selling SUV a generation update. The current GLC was launched in 2016 and since then it received no major update other than midlife facelift.
The new vehicle has been spotted testing in India. Judging from its dimension it seems the coming GLC will be larger than the current generation which will result to more wheelbase thereby expect more roomy interiors. Although the slight larger dimension doesn’t mean it will move up a category, it will still be rival to the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, BMW X3.
From the spyshots, it can be figured out that the hood of the vehicle is slightly longer and the roofline a bit more raked than before. Whereas it will still be based on the same platform as of newly launched 2022 C Class, with some specific changes as it is a higher riding vehicle.
The generation update to the GLC is expected to be lighter than the outgoing version as it will be using more aluminium than steel. All of this was possible due to the use of advanced joining technologies including aluminium to steel welding.
The highlight is going to be interior with a new C-Class inspired interior which is indirect inspired from the 2022 S-Class. The SUV will get a large screen in between and behind the steering wheel. Expect space to be on par with the C-Class at the back.
This vehicle will be available with multiple engine options suiting everyone’s budget. Expect the GLC to continue with the same 2.0litre diesel and petrol engine with some hybridisation to aid in efficiency also power which we have seen on the C-Class. Also for the maniacs there will be an AMG version of it too with increased power and torque plus beefed up looks to living up to its AMG badging. A coupe version could follow like last time only in AMG guise. Expect it to be hitting Indian shores by July 2023.
