Global NCAP launches the second round of 2022 #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests results today with Hyundai Creta scoring three stars for adult and child occupant protection.
For the #SaferCarsForIndia project, Global NCAP currently tests frontal crash protection for occupants and not side impact, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and pedestrian protection. These requirements will form part of new Global NCAP assessment protocols from July 2022.
The Creta was tested in its most basic safety spec fitted with 2 frontal airbags and ABS. It recorded an unstable structure and the risk of injury to the lower legs and feet of the driver. Lack of ISOFIX anchorages and 3 point belts in all seating positions explains the child occupant protection results. Global NCAP was surprised to see in such a new model the lack of 3 point belts in all seating positions, lack of ESC and no side head impact protection as standard.
ADULT OCCUPANT
The protection offered to the driver’s head was adequate and passenger’s head was good. Driver’s and passenger’s neck showed good protection.Driver’s chest showed marginal protection and passenger’s chest showed good protection. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube. Driver tibias showed weak and adequateprotection while passenger tibias showed good and adequate protection. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as unstable. The car offers standard SBR for driver and passenger. All of the above explains the three stars for adult occupant protection.
CHILD OCCUPANT
The child seat for the 3 year old was installed FWF using the adult seatbelt. It could not prevent excesive forward movement of the head, while chestshowed weak protection. The 1.5 year old was installed RWF with the adult seatbelt while offering good protection to head and chest. CRS marking was permanent. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The vehicle offers lapbelt in the rear centre position. The car does not have ISOFIX anchorages as standard. All of the above explains the three stars for child occupant protection.
