The Toyota Innova, TKM’s flagship offering in India has come a long way ever since its introduction in 2005. Similarly, the second generation Innova Crysta, continues to win customer hearts , being a segment leader itself. However, due to very high demand pattern which has resulted in an increased waiting period for the diesel variant of Innova Crysta, TKM has decided to temporarily stop taking orders for the diesel variant. As a customer-centric company, we are making efforts to supply the vehicles to customers who have already made bookings with our dealers. However, we will continue to take order for Petrol variant of Innova Crysta.” – Toyota Spokesperson
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has stopped accepting bookings for the Innova Crysta diesel through its online sales channels. The company is only accepting bookings for the 2.7-litre petrol motor with manual and automatic transmissions. The development is a shocking one considering the Innova Crysta witnesses a high demand for its diesel versions. It’s unclear if the bookings have been stopped temporarily or Toyota plans to discontinue the diesel version permanently.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is currently available with the 2.4-litre diesel engine that develops 150PS and 360Nm of peak torque. The engine can be had with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine produces 166PS and 245Nm of peak torque, available with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Power is sent to the rear wheels with both engines. The Innova Crysta is one of the last models based on the ladder on frame chassis, which gives it the advantage with its size and ride quality. The diesel engines are particularly popular known for their reliability.
The development also comes at a time when rumours of the new-generation Innova being around the corner. The model reportedly will be unveiled later this year in Thailand and could switch to a monocoque platform with a petrol hybrid engine powering the model. The new Innova is expected to be more compact in proportions but will sport a bigger wheelbase maximising cabin space, while the monocoque platform, likely to be based on the DNGA architecture, will be lighter and aid in better driving.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is currently priced between Rs. 17.45 lakh and Rs. 23.83 lakh. The diesel variants are priced between Rs. 18.90 lakh and Rs. 26.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We could hear more about the new Innova towards the end of the year, while the launch could take place in early 2023. The new Innova will take on offerings like the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, and the likes.
