Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the Alturas G4 2WD High variant in the country. The new top-spec is essentially the only variant available on the full-size SUV and is price at Rs. 30.68 lakh (ex-showroom). With the launch of the new 2WD High variant, the Alturas G4 loses out on all other variants and options including the entry-level 2WD and 4×4 versions. That said, the fully-loaded single variant is still more affordable than the Toyota Fortuner in the segment, which is its primary rival.

The Mahindra Alturas G4 2WD High now benefits from feature upgrades that were previously available only on the 4×4 version. The feature list now includes 18-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof and ambient lighting. Other features include rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, electrically adjustable driver’s seat adjust with memory function, side and curtain airbags as well as a powered tailgate.
In terms of power, the same 2.2-litre diesel engine remains the same with 181PS on offer, paired with only the Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission. The SUV continues to use a ladder-on-frame construction.
The Alturas G4 may not be the most popular SUV in the segment but it does come across as a premium and comfortable offering. Compared to the Fortuner, the new 2WD High variant is Rs. 6.5 lakh cheaper whereas the MG Gloster is more expensive by Rs. 1.32 lakh. There’s also the Isuzu MU-X and Jeep Meridian in the same segment, while there are also five-seater offerings like the Hyundai Tucson and Citroen C5 Aircross that overlap in terms of pricing.
