Brands across the world are now focusing their efforts on electric models and Audi is no exception. The A6 E-Tron EV is in the works; however, the company has also not given up on internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the car. Recently test mules of A6 in both Wagon and sedan forms were spotted with both featuring ICE under their hoods.
The models spotted in testing include the Sedan and Wagon versions of the A6 along with its four-door iteration called, the S6. All these models are in the development phase and we expect substantial changes once they get ready for the final production. The sneak peek into the interiors of spotted models revealed that their cabins got only temporary arrangements in terms of instrument clusters and infotainment screens among others. It can be safely concluded that these test mules are at a very initial stage of development and there is no official confirmation on when these models will actually arrive in the market.
The chief executive officer of Audi Markus Duesmann had already announced the company’s renaming strategy of its models with even Numbers denoting the electric vehicles while odd numbers models using ICE engines. Going by the new terminology, A4 will replace the A5 model while A6 will become A7 in its model line-up. Audi is also aggressively working on the development of the A6 E-Tron model and its spruced-up RS6 variant is also being planned.
The A6 E-Tron along with Porsche Macan EV and Q6 E-Tron is underpinned by VW’s premium platform electric architecture that offers a range of approximately 700 km with power generation of 470 hp. As far as the launch of the A6 E-Tron is concerned, Audi will bring it into the market at some point in time this year followed by the debut of its RS6 version.
