Taking the leaf out of the book from the Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors is planning to make its debut in the entry-level lifestyle SUV space. The segment is dominated by the Mahindra Thar with recently launched Maruti Jimny also finding favour among the buyers. The chairman of Tata Motors N Chandrasekaran dropped a hint to launch the lifestyle SUV at the Annual General Meeting of the company by saying that the company is looking forward to launching a rugged, Jeep-like SUV in the market.
Tata Motors offer a whole host of SUVs to buyers and with the category of entry-level Lifestyle SUV finding increasing traction with buyers, it is natural for the company to leverage its deep-rooted capabilities of manufacturing SUVs to foray into the segment. The popularity of the segments can be estimated by the fact that Mahindra has sold more than 1 lakh Thar in the Indian market and the waiting period on the SUV extends more than a year. Maruti, on the other hand, has also garnered 50k+ bookings for its Jimny since its launch in India.
Tata Motors can effectively utilise the legendary capabilities of the Land Rover to come up with a credible off-road SUV. The existing SUV lineup of Tata Motors is doing extremely well in the market and going forward, the company plans to add a slew of new EVs to its SUV portfolio. Tata Motors has set its eyes firmly on increasing the market share and volume and to that end, the upcoming products from the house of Tata Motors including the lifestyle entry-level SUV can prove instrumental for the organisation.
