The new 2024 Suzuki Swift made its debut 2023 Japan Mobility Show. Along with the new Swift, Suzuki showcased its Spacia Concept, electric SUV eVX, mini Wagon EV eWX, and mini-commercial van BEV e Every Concept at the event. Suzuki Motor Corporation will start sales of the all-new Swift in India from 9’th May 2024.
2024 Suzuki Swift has been developed keeping in mind the theme of “Drive & Feel”. The company claims that the new Swift will offer a superior drive experience to customers owing to its improved design and drive characteristics. The styling of the new model is largely identical, although Suzuki has introduced some striking design elements to spur the excitement. Prominent among these new elements are a larger grille, sculpted clamshell bonnet, and a new front bumper.
The profile is also similar to before. However, the welcome change here is the repositioning of the door handles back to their conventional place, unlike the existing generation where they are integrated with C-pillar. The design of the alloys is new and the company has used a blacked-out theme for its pillars and ORVMs. At the back, the new tail lamps are the centre of attraction and you can’t miss the new housing for fog lamps that also adds a hint of dynamism to the overall design. The body color lineup includes a total of 13 patterns in 9 colors, including new colors “Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic” and “Cool Yellow Metallic”.
The powertrain adopts a newly developed Z12E engine and CVT, realizing both fuel efficiency and driving performance. Japanese spec car delivers maximum fuel economy of 28 km/l with a 12v mild hybrid. India should get the same but expect mileage numbers to go higher when it comes to claimed economy. A real life 26 km/l can be expected on highway with 24 km/l. This takes down the Hyundai Grand i10 which also got a significant bump in fuel economy at 20 km/l, claimed.
While maintaining the design, the Swift achieved top-level aerodynamic performance in its class, by adopting back door side spoilers, optimizing the front strake, front bumper and wheel shape, which reduces air resistance by approximately 4.6% compared to the previous generation*1. In addition, the increased use of high-tensile steel plates and structural adhesives in the body contributes to outstanding handling and ride comfort. Furthermore, the quietness has been improved by adding baffle materials and applying damping adhesive to body joints.
For safety equipment, Dual Sensor Brake Support II, which combines a millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera, has been adopted. The inclusion of Adaptive Cruise Control [all-speed following function and stop hold function] with added brake hold function made possible with electronic parking brakes, as well as Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive High Beam System and etc., helps to reduce the burden of everyday driving. In addition, the Driver Monitoring System, which recognizes the driver’s face and alerts them of drowsiness or inattention through camera detection, has been adopted for the first time for Suzuki. The packaging follows the compact and easy-to-handle body size. The layout around the driver’s seat is designed to provide a natural posture for operation, with easy-to-use audio and switches for the driver.
The changes inside the cabin are quite substantial, with the footprints of the Baleno-inspired theme are very much apparent on the 2024 Swift. Dual-tone black and grey scheme looks nice and the free-floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system gets both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other noteworthy features include an automatic climate control system, semi-digital instrument cluster, multifunctional steering wheel, and Heads-up display among others. The concept model will also receive advanced safety features such as adaptive high beam assist, collision mitigation braking, and driver monitoring system, although these are unlikely to make their way on Indian-spec Swift.
The car could receive a strong hybrid iteration for its 3-cylinder, 1.2-lier petrol engine which is likely to offer fuel efficiency of up to 40 km/l. Maruti Swift remains among the best-selling models in India and with the upcoming new generation, the car is likely to take its popularity to the next level.
