Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ has updated its Lada Niva SUV, which has been in some markets for almost half a century. The Lada Niva is a unique 3.7-meter-long SUV with a three-door body style, and has continued without major changes since its debut in 1977. The company had its co-operation with General Motors.
The Lada Niva received engine and exterior updates during its lifespan, as the SUV was also sold in some European markets. However, the sanctions imposed after the Russian-Ukrainian war reduced sales of the Lada Niva only in the Russian market. In addition, when car assembly resumed in 2022, AvtoVAZ removed many important safety-related components and other engine components, such as airbags, from SUVs with little or no equipment.
But now the automaker has announced the launch of the anti-lock braking system ‘ABS’. brought them back to the Lada Niva with an updated engine that now complies with Euro 5 emissions regulations. Since 2009 these emissions regulations have been in force worldwide, so they are already out of date. The current BS6 emission norms came into effect overseas in 2014 and in India from April 2020.Currently, the Euro 7 emissions standard is expected to be implemented in 2025.
Apart from sharing the Euro 5 engine upgrade, there is no word on displacement and type. Due to the shortage of parts, AvtoVAZ installed the engines of the Chinese brand in the Lada Niva for a short time, but the details are still unclear. Lada Niva is not yet sold in India and has never been. Do you want this iconic Russian car here?
