Kia is testing the Carens face with an updated MPV that is expected to be launched in India next year. The latest images of the test car give a clear picture of the updated MPV, which appears to take inspiration from Kia’s new electric EV range and SUV.

At the top, the headlights have been redesigned with more angular units with an upper LED eye and lower main unit, similar to the units on the Kia EV5 sold in the global market. Unlike current Carens, the two units form a single unit rather than the same headlight design as on current models. In summary, the changes appear to be minor as the test mule rides on new wheels.

At the rear, Carens appears to have gotten a new look and a redesigned bumper. The light units appear to be traditionally designed and sport a similar design to the Seltos and Sonet. This includes new rectangular headlights paired with a full-width grille.

Inside, we expect Kia to update the MPV. We expect all equipment like the 10.25-inch touchscreen, Bose sound system, sunroof, ventilated front seats and connected car technology to be improved, but the Carens may receive updates such as new digital instruments similar to the units in the Seltos and Sonet. The test mule also revealed a camera module in the door mirrors, suggesting that the top models will feature a 360-degree camera.

As for the powertrains, we expect the current trio of petrol and diesel engines (1.5 petrol, 1.5 diesel and 1.5 turbo diesel) to be fitted. We expect all three to be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. As before, the Carens will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the XL6.
