Audi Electric Vehicle in India By 2020 to further establish brand building and in the quest to stay ahead of the competition
Audi has revealed that they are planning to launch an electric SUV in India by the year 2020. While India will get only one electric vehicle from the German Automaker, on the other hand, Audi will be introducing three electric vehicles in the global market.
Audi claims that this EV is the perfect blend of an SUV and electric vehicle. Well, Audi isn’t sure if electric vehicles will be successful in the Indian market due to the import norms and the poor growth in charging facilities. Currently, in India, Audi stands third as a luxury car manufacturer and it is striving hard to get back on the top spot. In order to boost volumes, Audi is planning to launch models below the A3 and the Q3. As of now, Audi hasn’t mentioned any particular of the model, but we can expect Audi to launch the Q2 compact SUV.
Last year, the Audi Q2 was launched in the global market. The Q2 underpins the MQB platform and it is powered by both the 1.0-litre TFSI petrol mill which generates 116 bhp of power. It also gets an optional 1.4-litre TFSI petrol mill that generates 150 bhp of power and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol mill that produces 190 bhp of power. In addition to this, the diesel line up gets 1.6 litre TDI engine that produces 150 bhp of power and 2.0 litre TDI engine that generates 190 bhp of power. Customers get to choose from a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox. Only the 2.0 litre TDI trim gets Audi’s Quattro AWD unit while the rest of the trims gets four-wheel drive.
As of now, the A3 is the most affordable car from Audi’s stable in the Indian market. It is expected that there will be at least one product launch in both the Hatchback and Sedan segment. It could be expected that these models will be priced in the Rs 22- 25 lakh price range.
