BMW is all set to assemble its 5 Series long-wheelbase (LWB) in India on July 24 2024. Bookings open on 22’nd June 2024. Given the popularity of LWB sedans in India, the move is quite on the expected lines and will gain popularity. The new model will take on the likes of the Mercedes E-Class long-wheelbase once launched in India.
Given the fact that luxury sedans world over is primarily chauffeur-driven, these cars come with added space, legroom, and comfort in the rear seat. Further, the additional features at the back seat such as massaging function, reclining seats, and foldable trays enhance their appeal among the target market. BMW has made significant changes to the existing 5 series platform to bring its LWB version to India though the company has done the same with the 3-Series Gran limo.
5-series LWB (aka G68) will feature up to 135mm longer wheelbase than its standard version. It is also expected to come with a longer roof and rear doors in the interest of better ingress and egress convenience. The rear seat will wireless charging pad, cup holders, a large glass roof and other aspects.
In terms of the engine options, customers are likely to receive the hybrid version of 2.0 litre petrol and diesel engines will be offered as well. The curviest BMW to go on sale in India will be the all new 2024 5 series. The short wheelbase 5-series will also come as a 540i xdrive just like how the rest of the model lineup is getting the same treatment.
In terms of sales numbers, 5 Series has only added modestly to the overall sales achieved by BMW in India until now. All this is dramatically set to change with the upcoming arrival of this 5 Series LWB. The i5 M60 xDrive has already been launched in India. The i5 LWB should come by Diwali to India.
