Glasses instead of a helmet, light clothing, full balance without a stand: just three of a great many aspects, Introducing the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100.
Millennials will be like, what has been BMW taking? Old school riders are already fearing the future after the captivating video. BMW says that the feeling of freedom a new dimension in an increasingly digitalised world is all set to happen. The vision is complete with their new Vision BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100.
The futuristic two-wheeler seen in the video seems to be gliding silently through the hall. The rider, according BMW doesn’t require heavy riding equipment anymore. Helmet is being replaced with ‘stylish glasses’. BMW has created a digital companion. A functional unit consisting of motorcycle and BMw’s version of rider’s equipment that will ensures a high degree of safety. The digital companion will act imperceptibly in the background and always intervenes when required or desired.
The rider brings her vehicle to a stop and remains poised in that position without taking a foot off the frame. BMW has managed to make the bike stand without the help of any kind of center/side stand. BMW says that the motorcycle will help inspire new riders and confidence riders can avail chassis benefits by the agile handling it will offer. It’s like a scene from a sci-fi film. The BMW Group Future Experience catapults you into the 40s of the 21st century. Designers here are said to be assuming that in 20 years, most vehicles will be autonomous. Life, as we know it will be more based and organised by digital services.
The idea comes from the 40’s when the BMW Motorrad came to life. The black triangular frame, white lines, classical opposed-twin engine type come the 1932 R32. The vision vehicle can be described as a naked type. Ergonomics and seat position are set up like on a roadster on the Vision Next 100. The design of the front is minimalistic and refined with high-quality detailing. As you can see in the pictures, above the front wheel there is a large metallic reflector can be seen integrated in the frame. The metallic reflecto serves as a wind guide and together with the integrated windscreen, ensures superior aerodynamics
There are body elements too. The upper frame cover and the front-wheel cover are made of carbon fibre. As you can see there is a tail light and turn indicators on this motorcycle too. The tyres and the suspension is one giant structure. They have a damping function and actively adapt to the terrain. The red rocker arm on the right handlebar is a consciously mechanical element and it helps in blocking the throttle grip and can release it at the same time.
The steering movement decides the flexibility of the chassis. It is nimble at low speeds and firms up at high speeds. The surfaces of the chassis and things around it are attached so that they offer the wind and weather protection of a fully enclosed motorcycle. The engine is flexible unit too (God knows how it works, this is beyond science now) and the fins protrude out and get in when riding or standing still respectively.
BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 helps rider and motorcycle get in a direct exchange. This is is set to take place via the visor, a pair of data glasses comprising the entire field of view with the addition of wind protection function. The visor will enable the motorcycle to stay fully up to date on the route and will project situationally relevant data directly into the rider’s field of view. There are more the gesture modes here on offer. For example, of the rider looks straight ahead, no data is displayed to make sure he is not distracted. In case of hazards or if the rider requests information, does the visor become active. In this case, the digital companion appears in the lower third of the glasses. It has been designed as an upturned triangle forming two horizontal lines.
BMW says it resembles very much to an aircraft cockpit. The visor can show you the current angle of lean and the ideal line to take on the road. If there is any deviation, the rider can correct this and If not, the motorcycle corrects itself. Rear view mirrors also a part of the new visor. This will happen only when the rider is Looking up. Part of the gesture control also includes finger gesture. when the rider lowers his gaze a little below the normal viewpoint, a menu opens where he can trigger each function using finger gesture control. If the rider lowers his gaze even more, the map view opens, showing the rider the route he has chosen.
BMW wants to take rider safety to the next level with new type of riding gear. Light textiles as opposed to leather combinations that we see today are thing of the past. The new riding gear will provide a fashionable statement and also provide protection against wind and rain. There will be an A/C function either cools or warms the rider as desired. The flexible belt structure on the suit and shoes takes its inspiration from muscle cords and is set to fit all size of riders. Phew, this clearly deserves the tag of BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100, it is got all the bases covered, including science freaking fiction for added cool quotient!
