BMW will overtake Tesla for the first time in the European electric car market. The German brand delivered 14,869 new electric cars in Europe last month, 308 more than its US rival. Tesla sales in Europe fell in July, with Model Y SUV registrations down 16% to 9,544 units and Model 3 sedan registrations down 17% to 4,694 units.

Total electric vehicle sales in Europe fell 6% year-on-year, market analyst Jato Dynamics said due to a lack of government incentives and consumer concerns about value for money. The best-selling electric car in Europe last month was the Model Y, followed by the Volvo EX30 (sold 6,573 units) and the Volkswagen ID 4 (sold 5,295 units). Compared to July 2023, the European market will grow by 2% to 1.03 million vehicles, 54% of which are SUVs.

European consumers now have more choices, and SUVs are more accessible and desirable for many. This, along with an increasing number of affordable models, is helping consumers shift from the traditional segment to SUVs. BMW India EV have taken the market by storm as well. Be it the Mini, i7, iX and i4, they all have added to the BMW leader ship position despite Audi and Mercedes had an early mover advantage.
