Rs 36 lakh is all you need to get yourself a brand spanking new Skoda Octavia, but not any Octavia, an BS6 2020 Skoda Octavia VRS 245. A car that goes from dead stop to 100 kmph in just 6.6 seconds and does a gut-wrenching top-speed of 250 km/h. The so-called sports-sedan has been launched in India at the Auto Expo of 2020 for the aforementioned ex-showroom price. Don’t be astounded if we tell you that Skoda will only sell 200 units of the said car.

Moreover, Skoda plans on a detailed launch for 2020 and the Octavia RS has set it just right. Unlike the previous generation model that pumped around 230 horses and 350 Nm of torque, Skoda has bumped up the numbers up to 242 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. Now, these figures are impressive for a car that disguises as a regular family car and can mainly be recognised by the enthusiasts. Nothing wrong if one calls the Octavia vRS a sleeper. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre TSi engine mated to a 7-speed DSG. All the ponies are put down to the front wheels by an electronic slip differential.

With only 200 units being allotted to the Indian market, anyone who considers getting the car will have to be quick on their feet and hit the bank. History has been the witness that it doesn’t take too long for the Octavia vRS to be sold out. Other than launching the car at the 2020 Auto Expo, it also worked as a great tool to fetch more crowd towards the brand.

Talking about the stock not lasting for too long, the sell-out can even happen in a matter of days. Visually, the BS6 2020 Skoda Octavia VRS 245 doesn’t look too different when compared to the outgoing one. The previous model, better known as the RS 230 was sold as a locally-assembled unit. But, break no sweat, Skoda has decided to sell the new model strictly as a CBU and that has resulted in the price hike. To enhance the performance and ride quality, the car has been lowered down further and larger, 18-inch five-spoke alloys have been introduced.

Talking about the plain jane Skoda Octavia, it will be a while before we see it in India. As the BS6 norms will be mandated after 1ST April 2020, Skoda doesn’t plan on cutting any slack on the existing offers to get the stocks moving.

Right now, what’s available in the market is the Skoda Octavia with a 1.8-litre TSi petrol and a rather preferred 2.0-litre TDi diesel. As said earlier, the new Skoda Octavia will take its sweet time before hitting the Indian market and till then all we have is the RS model to play with, but in limited numbers. To say the least, we can expect the BS6 compliant Octavia to be available by the end of 2020 with the introduction of the facelifted Skoda Superb.
