We are witnessing heightened interest of Chinese auto manufacturers in the Indian market. Take the example of MG Motors which is doing extremely well in India and the second Chinese company to join the league is Great Wall Motors. Also earlier, the third Chinese auto Major Changan Auto was gearing to start its operations in India. The company has already opened its liaison office in capital city Delhi.
It has appointed veteran automobile professional G Sanjay to constitute a commercial team for its upcoming operations. Just so you know Sanjay is a very well known face in the Indian automobile industry who has worked with a number of automobile manufacturers in different capacities. Now the launch has been delayed, this is due to the pandemic putting plans of the shore for now.
Meanwhile, Changan Auto has a robust product portfolio that suits the taste and preferences of Indian buyers. One of its first products that will make its debut is CS 75 Plus. This full-size, 4.7-meter SUV has got all the SUV characteristics to entice buyers. It has got size, road-presence, multiple seat layout, and very competent 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter petrol engines. Another important product that we are sure that the company will launch in India is its small SUV – CS 35.
In fact, CS 35 is the smallest in the company’s portfolio measuring 4.2-meter in length. Given the fact that cars in India under 4-meter of length are eligible to get tax exemptions, Changan will modify the CS 35 to stack it under the desired criterion of length. This will help the company to gain tax benefits which will, in turn, translate into competitive pricing for the SUV. We also expect the company to load CS 35 with a long list of features and equipment to entice the buyers.
Many automakers in China have achieved tremendous progress on the front of electric vehicles (EVs) and Changan is no exception. Given the strong infrastructure towards electrification, Changan may also bring some EVs to our shores in the future. The company has also demonstrated capabilities in the field of autonomous cars which speaks volumes about its technical prowess. For now, we wait as everything goes normal and then new manufacturers can start coming in.
