A recent tire test class conducted by Eurogrip Tires, called the Master Class just happened. An industry first approach, expected from Eurogrip who are the most dedicated and technical bunch of people in the Indian tyre industry. We have seen riding schools, however, tire testing school is new to us. So far we have been measuring and deciding on tires based on grip, compound, cornering confidence and wet tests.
TVS Eurogrip Duratrail Terrabite And Beamer Tyres Review, First Ride
The course says that the testers should check the performance of the tires from three main areas – control, grip, and stability. These three are further evaluated in terms such as lightness, stability, and accuracy. Test riders should also evaluate the tire’s traction and lean, entry and exit while looking for consistency and predictability in grip levels. Finally, a straight line test to see what it feels like whether there is a wobble or not. We did four laps on almost all motorcycles. We had tested the road hounds last time and had a clear memory of what they were, brilliant, that is.
TVS Eurogrip Roadhound Tyre Review – A New Benchmark Hard To Beat!
For all this, Eurogrip sent its international test riders, the development team as well as its technical leader for this elite class. The idea is simple: tire manufacturers want journalists to learn about outdoor tire tests. This will show you what aspects are important and why. Now, whether we choose to use this schedule for future tests depends on how close the test parameters are to the real world.
For example, vibrating test includes to let go of the handlebars from high speeds to low speeds. Detecting a skid, concentrating hard enough to understand wobble at front and rear is necessary. On new tyres, if they are marginally higher, they might get worse as time passes by. Most tyres perform really well till the end of grip levels fall of is a sign of good tyres. To get a feel for this test method, we were taken to Kari Motor Raceway. We were offered a number of different motorcycles, including Eurogrip Roadhounds, Beamers, Terrabites and Protorq Extremes.
Clearly, on the TVS Ronin on the track outperformed expectations. I had a great time with them on the road, but on the track with the Eurogrip tyres, the Protorq Extremes available specifically for Ronin in the 130×70 section made me realize Ronin has so much potential! A 90-section Beamer in the front makes it feel lighter overall and this has been design for more lasting performance over enthusiastic behaviour because the market demands. Our last report on Beamers which was the ride in Maduari roads, made us realize how confident they feel!
The Bajaj Dominar 400 equipped with Protorq Extremes just made the heaviest bike in its class go two times lighter! There was a bit of wobble at the front, only because of the weight while really pushing it in the corners, but that is about it. Tires lean over much more when cornering. Shifting quickly from one lane to the other is magically easier. The Extremes always feel a step above everyone, even the Metzelers.
The lightweight Duke 390 with the same tires with much more aggressive engine at the track made us see a small wobble at the corner exit, much less than the Metzeler thanks to high torque going at a very fast pace to the rear wheels. Nothing surprising, but something to keep note on how Eurogrip the problem while the rest are yet to rectify this even after 10 years of this tyre size launch.
The master class has been very helpful. A few extra tips on what and how to look out for is insightful. A behind-the-scenes look at tire development and testing is something most journalists agreed was a great idea by Eurogrip. A new framework for measuring tires is clearly part of our drill now.
Better bikes on the track next time would be ideal. Focusing more on Protorq and Road hounds would be great. However, on the road we have a set of Protorq Extremes that are on test, and we will update you on them very soon too! We Know Eurogrip has tried hard to make good tyres every single time over the years are they are getting good at it. Helping journalists is also a great move to make the most out of work as well. As they say, learning never stops. An insight and opportunity that we can never forget and highly appreciate from the best bunch of people in the tyre industry that we will ever come across.
