Hero Motors Limited Partners With SchmiedeTechnik Plettenberg For Powertrains

Hero Motors Limited (HML), a group company of Hero Motors Company (HMC), has entered into a strategic joint venture with SchmiedeTechnik Plettenberg (STP), Germany, to manufacture forged powertrain components in India for global markets.

STP is a renowned German forging and metallurgy specialist with six facilities across Germany, producing high-precision forged and machined components for automotive and industrial applications. The JV’s manufacturing facility is proposed to be established at Hero Industrial Park in Ludhiana, home to other key automotive and EV manufacturing units such as HMC HIVE, HYM, and Spur Technologies.

HML, an automotive components technology company, engaged in highly engineered powertrain solutions and alloys & metallics, with R&D and manufacturing facilities spanning India, the United Kingdom, and Thailand. With a presence in international markets, this JV aims to bridge the gap in near-net shape precision forging, strengthening India’s position as a key player in advanced manufacturing.

Commenting on the JV, Mr. Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman, HMC Group, said, “Hero Motors has been evolving not just in product depth but also in geographical expansion. With our strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities, this partnership with STP will enable us to capture a significant share of the global powertrain components market.”

Mr. Amit Gupta, MD and CEO, Hero Motors, stated, “Our feasibility studies highlighted the perfect synergy between HML and STP. Both partners bring complementary strengths, and we are committed to making this venture greater than the sum of our contributions. The facility intends to commence production by mid-2026.”

Mr. Cornel Mueller, Chairman and CEO, STP, added, “Partnering with HML strengthens our global footprint and enhances cost efficiencies. Beyond manufacturing in India, our goal is to foster cross-border knowledge exchange and integrate best practices between Germany and India.”

The joint venture was formalized at HMC’s corporate office in Gurugram, in the presence of senior leadership from both companies. The event was graced by Mr. Georg Enzweiler, Minister Ambassador, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, underscoring the strong industrial collaboration between India and Germany.
