Bajaj Auto created the Chetak platform not just for its own brand but also for its partner, the KTM Group. And cross-sharing between the manufacturers means we will get KTM’s own iterations of the Chetak at a later date. But before that happens, the company already showcased the Husqvarna Vektorr concept earlier this year and the electric scooter is now heading towards production.
The latest spy shot emerged from Pune shows the first Husqvarna Vektorr test mule that’s completely covered in camouflage. It may be hard to make out that it’s a Husky under all that vinyl and those Chetak scooters surrounding the offering. But take a closer look and you will notice that the model is drastically different from the Chetak. In fact, this is the most number of Bajaj Chetaks at one time we’ve seen since its launch last year.
Coming back to the Husqvarna Vektorr test mule, the model gets a longer wheelbase with a visibly larger floorboard, flat split seats and a flatter grab rail. The oval-shaped rearview mirrors are different too, while the camouflage covers the electric drivetrain connected to the rear wheel. It’s also likely then that the Vektorr electric scooter will stay close to the concept in design when it hits production.
Expect to see the round headlamp with the LED DRL, slim apron, curved panels that push air towards the battery, and a short mudguard. On the performance front, the Vektorr concept promised a 4kW electric motor with a top speed of 45kmph and a range of 95km on a single charge. It needs to be seen if the same specifications make it to production too. The Bajaj Chetak fares slightly better in comparison with a 3 kWh battery pack and a 4kW electric motor that puts out 6PS and 16Nm of peak torque.
Suspension duties will be handled by telescopic forks at the front and a single shock at the rear, while the Vektorr electric scooter will use a front disc brake and a drum brake unit at the rear. The Vektorr could also be lighter than the Chetak but we don’t know that yet.
The Husqvarna Vektorr e-scooter will be made in India and exported overseas and we do think exports will be a priority of Bajaj-KTM before the model hits showrooms in India. The scooter is slated for a global launch next year, which is when we get to learn more about it. Certainly exciting times ahead in the electric scooter segment.
