2018 Elite i20 CVT Gearbox Equipped Petrol Engine has been finally launched in India, fair and square against the Baleno
This year at the 2018 Auto Expo which was held in the month of February, Hyundai had launched the new Elite i20. With the launch of the refreshed Elite i20, there was also some news going on that the Korean car manufacturer will soon introduce a CVT transmission for this hatchback. 2018 Elite i20 CVT is here and we have details.
Well, the news is true, Hyundai has launched the 2018 Elite i20 CVT in India at a starting price of Rs 7.04 lakh (Ex-Showroom, India). The CVT transmission will only be available for the two variants namely: Magna and Asta and they are priced at Rs 7.04 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and Rs 8.16 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) respectively.
When the 2018 Elite i20 was launched at the Indian Auto Expo, it got some styling updates and some feature updates. But the only thing it was lacking was a CVT transmission which has been launched now. As compared to the Magna and Asta with the manual gearbox, the CVT transmission models are expensive by slightly over a lakh.
Looking back at the previous facelift of the Elite i20, the hatchback got a four-speed torque converter (Automatic Transmission) which was coupled with the 1.4-litre dual VTVT petrol engine. Now the 2018 Elite i20’s petrol mill has been replaced with 1.2 litre Kappa engine and it is coupled with a CVT transmission. The new engine produces 83bhp of power and 115Nm of twist.
Speaking about aesthetics, the Elite i20 CVT gets Magna and Asta variants with the CVT transmission is similar to the Magna and Asta trims with the manual transmission. Rather than the change of transmission, there aren’t any changes on the exterior as well on the interiors and the features and equipment are more or less the same.
With the launch of the Elite i20 CVT in the Indian market, it competes head-on with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CVT and the Honda Jazz CVT. In comparison with its rivals, the pricing of the Elite i20 CVT by Hyundai helps to undercut its rivals which will also help in increasing its sales.
