Jeep India recently discontinued the Compass petrol and now it could be coming back! Reports suggest the same could happen over a next week. The plan certainly will give a major upgrade to the Compass and Meridian and upcoming small SUV. Jeep India is showcasing something exciting and we think this could be it or the new 4xE technology which is a AWD/4×4 system with the use of electric motor. Jeep Compass petrol will draw power from a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine.
The motor is available in two states of tune – 130PS and 150PS – paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed DCT, both sending power to the front wheels. This engine is already available on the Compass internationally and was introduced when the mid-lifecycle update arrived.
The Jeep Compass petrol was more popular than one might think. The Compass petrol contributed nearly 50 per cent to the total sales, which have been wiped off at the moment. The petrol engine particularly finds more takers in Delhi-NCR, which has a lifespan of 15 years for petrol cars and 10 years for diesel cars. About 80 per cent of the Compass petrol’s sales came from this region. That brings the average Compass sales to about 250-300 units a month.
A petrol offering is necessary in the company’s lineup, considering its more expensive SUVs are sold only with petrol engines. Jeep didn’t anticipate this move like others. Who thought petrol SUV’s, which were considered a sin back in the day, could make so much sense one day.
There’s also a chance that Jeep India will bring the Wrangler 4xe electric off-roader to the market soon, which will be a first for the brand. The Jeep Wrangler recently crossed the five millionth sales mark globally a few weeks ago. All of this could happen next week. Stay tuned to our website and Youtube for more details.
