KTM 790 Adventure will come with off-road focused package and on-road touring version can also be expected
Last year at the 2017 EICMA Motorcycle Show, KTM showcased us the 790 Duke and 790 Adventure. While the KTM 790 Duke is all ready to be launched, the 790 Adventure has once again been spotted testing. Once launched, the 790 Adventure will sit below the 1090 Adventure and 1290 Adventure from KTM’s stable. As of now, there isn’t any middleweight Adventure bike in KTM’s stable which can compete with the Honda Africa twin, BMW F850GS and the Triumph Tiger 800. In the international market as well as in India, the middleweight Adventure bike segment has been booming and with the launch of the 7KTM 790 Adventure, the competition will be raised.
In the month of February, the KTM 790 Adventure was first spotted testing which indicated that KTM had started making progress in getting this bike ready. Now, this middleweight adventure bike was spotted testing again. This time, the bike which has been spotted testing gets some modifications and it also gets a production-ready appearance in comparison with the previous model.
Upfront the new KTM 790 Adventure gets a new fender and it also carters a large windscreen. Also, the beak-like fender is now mounted on the front forks. In comparison to the previous model, the beak like fender was mounted under the headlamp unit. Just like the model spotted testing in February, the current model also continues to get bodywork near the engine on both the sides. As of now, it isn’t clear what exactly is it, it could be a fuel tank extension, crash protection or some storage compartments.
Powering the KTM 790 Adventure is the same engine that powers the KTM 790 Duke which gets two balancer shafts and also gets semi-dry lubrication. This is a 799cc, parallel twin, four stroke petrol engine generating 103bhp of power at 9,000rpm and 86Nm of twist at 8,000 rpm. In comparison with the 790 Duke, KTM will tune the engine of the 790 Adventure for low-end trackability.
Just like the original concept revealed at the 2017 EICMA Motorcycle Show, the bike features 21-inch wire-spoke wheel at the front and 18-inch wire-spoke wheel at the rear. The suspension unit consists of a long travel upside down fork at the front and the rear gets monoshock. Braking duty is taken care by dual discs at the front and a single disc at the rear. Whereas the brake callipers used are manufactured by J Juan which is a Spanish Manufacturer specialising in braking equipment for rally, enduro and trail bikes.
With the progress in the KTM 790 Adventure test mules, we can expect KTM to unveil the bike at the upcoming 2018 EICMA Motorcycle Show which will be held in the month of November. Let’s hope this adventure bike will also be launched in India making it KTM’s entry-level adventure bike until the 390 Adventure is launched. So stay tuned to ThrustZone to know more of the KTM 790 Adventure.
