Mahindra Alturas SUV Is The Fortuner, MUX and Endeavour Rival launched at Rs. 26.95 lakhs
Homegrown automaker Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch its Fortuner-rival Alturas SUV in India as it prices it attractively and the top-end variant is priced at Rs. 29.95 lakhs. Just so you know, Alturas will replace Ssangyong Rexton SUV and become Mahindra’s flagship SUV model in India.
Contrary to the initial speculation that new SUV’s name will be alphanumeric, Mahindra has decided to christen it Alturas for the Indian market. The Alturas means height and the name also reflect the Mahindra’s intention to scale new heights in the high-end SUV segment with this new offering. Mahindra Alturas is based on the latest generation. Ssangyong Rexton and features body-on-frame construction for superior off-road capabilities. The new Mahindra family grille upfront and minor cosmetic changes sets the Alturas apart from the new Rexton.
Mahindra offers Alturas in two trim levels: Lower G2 trim with 2WD and fully-loaded G4 trim with 4WD capabilities. Under the Hood, Altura will derive power from a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine which puts out 180.5 bhp along with 420 Nm of Max torque. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, the gearbox Mahindra has sourced from Mercedes. The SUV will have a 5.5-meter turning radius and 244 mm of ground clearance.
To effectively take on competition, Mahindra Alturas features a long list of equipment. Features like sunroof, 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated seats with memory function, cruise control, and electronic parking brake are a part of standard equipment in the top-spec G4 version. Apple car play, android auto, ventilated seats and safety features such as roll over protection, 9 airbags, abs and ebd along with more. 360 degree camera, HID lamps, LED DRL’s and powered tail gate is on offer. Mahindra Alturas does undercut the rivals significantly. Alturas will be squaring off against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq and Honda CR-V. For starters, the Fortuner is expensive by Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 3 lakhs in 4×2 and 4×4 variants respectively.
