In 2022, Mahindra introduced five of its upcoming electric SUV models. The new SUVs are divided into two sub-brands: XUV and BE. Under the XUV nameplate, there will be two SUV models: e8 and e9. XUV.e8 was discovered recently and will be based on XUV700 and now XUV e9 has been spotted on the roads in India. Mahindra has announced that it will launch the XUV.e9 in April 2025.
XUV.e9 will be in the body type segment. It’s called an SUV coupe and so far, only luxury manufacturers have used this body style. Tata Motors will be the first manufacturer to offer the coupe SUV in India with the upcoming Curvv going on sale later this year.
So, this is not the first time Mahindra has produced an SUV Coupe. Eight years ago, Mahindra showcased the XUV Aero concept at the Auto Expo 2016. Yes, the concept received a lot of attention, but the project was shelved because at that time, the production SUV would have a very high price.
The Mahindra XUV.e9 will have a length of 4,790 mm and a width of 1,905 mm and a height of 1,690 mm. The wheelbase measures 2,775mm and the electric SUV will be powered by the INGLO platform. In the spy photos, the XUV.e9 looks quite imposing and dominant due to its size. The front design will be shared with the XUVe.8. So, expect a light bar with vertically mounted headlights and LED daytime running lights.
There will be no traditional grille, but the hood is quite flat and has muscular lines. On both sides there will be flat door handles and the rear door handle will be placed on the C-pillar.The roof design is now coupe-like, so it drops behind the B-pillar.
