The Maruti Suzuki Ignis facelift was introduced at the 2020 Auto Expo with cosmetic upgrades, and now, the company has updated the Zeta variant on the hatchback with a new feature. Positioned below the range-topping Alpha variant, the 2020 Ignis Zeta now comes with the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system as part of the equipment list. The feature was previously restricted to the Alpha variant alone.
The new feature does come at an expense though with the Zeta variant getting a price hike of Rs. 8,500. The revised prices for the Ignis Zeta start at Rs. 5.98 lakh for the manual and Rs. 6.45 lakh for the AMT (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ignis with its quirky style and high ground clearance takes on the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and the Ford Figo.
The SmartPlay Studio unit is nearly a standard feature on all top variants of all Maruti Suzuki cars. The feature comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and has worked as a catalyst in widening the adoption of the feature in India in mass-market offerings. With the SmartPlay Studio now available on the Zeta trim, Maruti has made feature more accessible to buyers. This is specially true once you consider the Ignis Alpha is about Rs. 81,000 more expensive than the Zeta model.
Apart from the connectivity options, the unit also gets Bluetooth telephony, Live traffic update via the SmartPlay Studio app, AM/FM radio and more. It also acts as a display for the reverse camera, but Maruti Suzuki has decided to restrict that feature to the Alpha trim alone. Buyers should check with their NEXA dealer though to retrofit that option at a premium.
Other features on the 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta continue to remain the same. The model continues to come with alloy wheels, chrome grille, electrically foldable ORVMs, engine start-stop, rear wiper, four speakers and two tweeters. Compared to the Alpha, it misses out on the LED projector lens headlamps and DRLs, auto climate control and height adjustable driver’s seat. Barring the new feature, there’s no other change on the Ignis Zeta. The model draws power from the 1.2-litre VVT K-Series petrol engine with 83PS and 113Nm of peak torque, which is paired with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
