Mercedes E220D LWB variant has been launched in the country and continues to be offered at an attractive price tag
German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has launched the new E220d long wheelbase variant of E-Class today. The E220d is the first LWB car to be manufactured for India and is a completely Made-in-India product. The E220d will be an affordable alternative for customers looking for a diesel E-Class as compared to the E 350 d. The E220d will be placed between the E200 and the E350d and is priced really well just like the other engine variants of the car. Talking about the numbers the latest E220d will come with Mercedes’ new 2.0 litre, four cylinder diesel engine which churns out around 196.7 PS of power and 400 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The new E-Class LWB E220d variant will replace the outgoing E250d variant in India. The company has received around 120 booking till now for the E220d. This is the fifth generation E-Class and is the most advanced E-Class ever to be made and for the first time launched in its extended wheelbase version. Mercedes-Benz has given normal suspension that uses steel springs which improves the ride comfort and vehicle driving dynamics.
The luxury sedan measures 5,063 mm in length, resulting in more space inside the cabin, especially at the rear and comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. The system also features COMAND ONLINE and a Burmester 3D-surround sound system that has been co-developed by Mercedes-Benz and Burmester. The rear passenger seats have a memory function that can save up to three seating positions and can recline up to 37 degrees. The steering wheel will feature touch controls for navigation, command and audio system and the driver can play with different driving modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sports+.
On the exterior the Merc E-Class will be featuring a sporty dual slat front chromium grille with the iconic tri-star placed in the middle and stylish multi spoke alloy wheels. The E-Class LWB will compete against Audi A6, upcoming BMW 5 Series, Volvo S90 and Jaguar XF in the market. Like the other trims the E220d will also be locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz Chakan facility.
