The ZS EV, still modern despite being on the market for five years, is expected to be replaced by the car pictured. This car is the ES5 SUV, which was unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. Its debut for the European and Chinese markets is scheduled for mid-2025.
The ES5 is clearly an MG SUV, with its stance, face and taillight design. However, it does get some new design highlights in the headlights, wheels and daytime running lights.
The inside of the cabin is a minimalist design with two large digital screens and a few buttons on the centre console. As seen in the Windsor EV, most functions for both the driver and the cabin are operated directly via touchscreens. As with the car pictured, India will also get the car in a black-over-silver color scheme, with additional colors available as accessory packs.
The Chinese market will see the ES5 being sold with a 49.1 kWh battery pack, or a more powerful 62.2 kWh battery pack with a range of 425-525 km. These are LFP battery packs manufactured by SAIC battery partner CATL. The ZS EV’s front-axle mounted engine currently produces 174 hp/280 Nm, and the car is expected to achieve roughly the same figures. Two digital screens have already been revealed, but we can also expect ADAS Level 2, powered front seats, wireless phone mirroring, OTA updates, HUD, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, full LED lighting package, and more.
Given the name the ZS EV has acquired, we expect MG to maintain this name to build on its legacy. When the ES5 is released, it will compete with cars like the Maruti eVX, Toyota Urban Sport, Honda Elevate EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV.e8, XUV.e9, and Tata Sierra EV. This will be a whole new battle, rather than the ZS EV playing alone. The MG ES5 is the next-generation ZS EV.
