The next-generation Tata Nexon was in the works and the model was recently spotted ready for launch. The Nexon turned out to be a game-changer for Tata Motors, which makes the new generation of the subcompact SUV all the more important. The spy shots reveal everything new about the car which includes, the head lamps, tail-lamps and grille. The silhouette has remained the same. The facelift seems to be very minor on the outside. Inspiration from the Curvv concept at the front and rear.
The cabin is expected to see big upgrades as well. The next iteration will most likely benefit from the new and larger infotainment screen and digital console showcased on the updated Safari, Harrier and Altroz Racer models at the Auto Expo 2023. This will also bring features like a 360-degree camera to the SUV. We also expect to see an updated version of iRA-connected car technology and more.
There will be powertrain upgrades as well with the revised turbo petrol and diesel engine options on the new-gen Nexon. Brand new 1.2 l petrol motor is coming in with 120 PS of power. Let’s not forget, the upgrades will extend to the Nexon EV as well. So a more range, better performance and features are likely in the future.
It will be interesting to see what platform Tata opts for with the new Nexon. It’s currently based on the X2 platform that traces its origins to the Indica but could shift to the ALFA architecture that underpins the Punch and Altroz. It was always developed keeping electrification in mind, which would make switching to this platform easier on the production level as well as parts sharing.
The subcompact SUV segment is still lucrative and very promising in volume. It’s also quite crowded with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Triber, Maruti Fronx and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza . Speculations also suggest at Volkswagen and Skoda working on a new subcompact SUV for emerging markets, which will be the brand’s next big launch in India. However, that model is still a while away. The new Nexon is ready for launch in September-October 2023. Tata needs to focus more on service as after sales is also gotten better than before, if not a bit arrogance can be seen at the showroom floors from time to time. Tata Nexon problems have been weird, big and difficult to understand some times for service and engineers to fix it causing problems that needed expensive solutions from the brand.
