Ola Electric is going super aggressive with sales and expansion plan for the festive season. The manufacturer has rolled out special offers for the festive season and the company will soon introduce a new electric scooter in its range as well. Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder and CEO, Ola Electric has announced that the new e-scooter will arrive for Diwali and will be more affordable than the S1 electric scooter. Considering the entry-level S1 is already priced at Rs. 99,999 (ex-showroom), there’s a possibility that the upcoming e-scooter will be priced around Rs. 80,000 (ex-showroom) undercutting several 110cc scooters.
Ola’s campaign End ICE age aims to eradicate petrol-powered scooters, while its own e-scooters serve as replacements. But the company’s own products have seen a fair share of issues, which makes it campaign easier said than done. It’s likely that the upcoming scooter will be the S1 but with a few of the fancy features missing. This could mean fewer riding modes, less power, and lower range. The manufacturer could opt for smaller 3 kWh lithium-ion battery with a double-digit figure around 80-90 km on a single charge. The more affordable version will also compete with a host of offerings from Okaya, Okinawa, Ampere, Odysse among others.
The announcement also comes at a time when Hero MotoCorp is all set to introduce its own electric two-wheeler brand. Vida is expected to be a segment disruptor, considering it comes from the world’s biggest two-wheeler maker by volumes. The first product under Vida brand will be unveiled on October 7, 2022 and could be called the Vida 1.
