After many SUVs and small cars, Volvo’s next saloon to get the electric treatment is its car. Swedish publication, Teknikens Värld, managed to post the photos on the automaker’s website. The image, which shows the car hidden under a hood (with the words “TOP SECRET” written on it), was taken in a factory in China.
The internal code name of the EV is “V551” and it is called “ES90”. It was developed on the same SPA2 platform as the EX90. The internal memo also contains some preliminary technical requirements. The Volvo ES90 is said to have a length of 4990 mm (196.4 in) and a wheelbase of 3102 mm (122.1 in). They say he is sixty years old.It is 1,547 mm (9 in) long and 1,945 mm (76.5 in) wide. The footprint suggests a direct rival to the BMW i5 and Mercedes. EQE and the upcoming Audi A6 E-tron.
The Volvo ES90 curb weight will be around 2,600 kg (5,732 lb) for the AWD model and 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) for the RWD model. It is equipped with a large capacity battery of 111 kWh, which is not surprising because it has the same capacity as the EX90 pack. The single-car model claims a range of up to 600 km, but this could be in line with the local regulations in China. Volvo ES90 Series production will begin in May 2024.
