Tata Motors to develop twin-clutch gearbox to make sure it competes with its rival thoroughly by offerings one of the best transmission systems in the market today

For quite some time, Tata Motors has been offering its budget cars with Automated Manual Transmission. This has helped the customers with a strict budget to enjoy the perks of an automatic car. Tata first introduced the AMT transfer case to the Zest with a diesel engine. Followed by which the Nano also was equipped with the AMT gearbox for its petrol mill.

Along with this, currently, even the Tiago and the Tigor come equipped with an AMT gearbox for its petrol engine. At the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata Motors showcased the Nexon with an Automated Manual Transmission for both the petrol and diesel engines.

The AMT transfer case was a major success and with further research and development, Tata has some exciting plans for its upcoming premium car range. The Indian manufacturer wants to offer these cars with DCTs i.e Dual-Clutch Transmissions. This transmission is more refined with smooth gearshifts and is efficient as compared to AMTs.

So what exactly is a Dual Clutch Transmission?Just like AMT, DCTs are automatic manual gearboxes, but the major difference is that it comes equipped with two clutches, hence the name Dual Clutch Transmission. As we all know that in AMTs the gear shifts are very jerky, with the help of the dual clutch there won’t be any jerks. DCTs will be offered in the upcoming premium cars from Tata Motors.
